History of
Gran Hotel Lakua
The essence of a new architecture
Gran Hotel Lakua was born with the vocation of becoming much more than just accommodation. Its design and soul represent the union between art, architecture and hospitality of excellence. This building redefines the city’s urban landscape from its location in the residential area of Lakua — the gateway to Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Its creator, the architect Adrián Lasquibar, conceived the project as an exercise in balance between reason and emotion: pure lines, exact proportions and a timeless elegance that shuns the superfluous. Every volume, every material, every play of light has been designed to transmit serenity and harmony, inviting the guest to enjoy a space that breathes calm and sophistication.
The emotional line
The Gran Hotel Lakua building stands as a work of modern and rationalist architecture. Its linear geometry, clean facades and balanced use of white concrete, glass and wood reflect the search for formal purity that characterises Lasquibar’s work.
In the author’s own words, his architecture could be defined as “the emotional line”: a sensitive interpretation of the structure, where empty space takes centre stage and light becomes material. The main entrance — a large seven-metre overhanging canopy — leads into a monumental fourteen-metre-high lobby. There, visitors are greeted by a singular pictorial work: “The Painting of Civilisations”, by the artist Miguel González de San Román, which symbolises the union between art, culture and emotion.
A space designed for wellbeing
Since its inauguration, Gran Hotel Lakua has maintained a clear purpose: to offer an experience of serene and authentic luxury. Inside, every detail — from the exclusively designed furniture to the chromatic selection — responds to an aesthetic concept based on sobriety and comfort. Wood, glass and leather dialogue with each other in a play of natural textures that create a welcoming and contemporary environment.
The hotel combines two accommodation concepts: a 5-star hotel and an aparthotel with spacious suites and studios, both connected by common spaces that reinforce the sense of spaciousness and wellbeing.
Architecture with soul
Gran Hotel Lakua is an architectural manifesto. Its linear structure, its marked horizontality and its dialogue with natural light express the essence of an honest, functional and poetic architecture. An architecture that breathes at the city’s pace and has successfully become a symbol of contemporary Vitoria: elegant, balanced and sustainable.
Every room, every corridor and every corner of the hotel tells a story of precision and sensitivity. Here, luxury is not imposed, it is suggested; beauty is not shown, it is felt.
A classic of the future
Today, Gran Hotel Lakua continues to establish itself as a benchmark for hospitality and design in the Basque Country, a place where modernity coexists with calm and where architecture becomes an experience.Because beyond its straight lines and harmonic volumes, Gran Hotel Lakua is, above all, a tribute to the art of creating spaces that endure.
